In Search Of A Well-Written Dissertation Synopsis Example

A synopsis is a short description where you will have to specify and explain the aim of the methods used to conduct the research and its goal. The main purpose of writing this section is to develop your capacity for critical and analyzing thinking on your researched subject. It is also a good practice to cultivate the communication abilities and to develop knowledge about how to create a synthesized document. The best way to start the writing process is to find a suitable research question that is the most interesting for you, and that won’t take you plenty of time to research, as time for writing the dissertation is always limited. You will have to spend some time to develop you question – it should be rather general, but with the ability to divide into specific aspects. Be as creative as you can and write down all the ideas that cross your mind, even the craziest ones. The writing language should be academic and logic, to avoid misunderstandings during the checking process of your tutors. It is also preferable to write from the third person, so try not to use personal statements. The structure of the synopsis part differs in some universities, however there is one standard form for everyone:

  1. 1. The first page – consists of the title, your full name and personal registration number, name of the chosen subject, your department and the full contact address of your institute.
  2. 2. Title is the key to your readers; it should attract the reader’s attention and make them want to read the whole work.
  3. 3. The introduction part should be brief but informative. Try to avoid unknown terms and technical words.
  4. 4. The Literature review part, with a description of the list of used materials.
  5. 5. Objectives of study listed in the chronological way.
  6. 6. Statements of your expectance or hypothesis.
  7. 7. The method section, usually the longest one.
  8. 8. Reference section – mostly listed in the alphabetical manner.
